Sound sets for Sibelius 5.2

Download sound sets

The following additional sound sets are currently available for download for Sibelius 5.2:

Note that downloading a sound set does not make these sounds available to you. Trying to use a sound set for a device or sample library that you do not own will produce incorrect playback and other error messages.

Installing a sound set

To install a sound set:

  • Download the sound set you want, and extract the archive.
  • One or more XML files (e.g. Sibelius Essentials.xml) will be extracted.
  • Copy the XML file or files to the following folders:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds
    • Windows Vista: C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5\Sounds
    • Mac OS X: /Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5/Sounds

(You may have to create the Sibelius 5 and Sounds folders yourself.)

To use this sound set inside Sibelius, use the Play > Playback Devices dialog. See 4.10 Playback devices in Help > Sibelius Reference for more details.

If the soundset you are looking for is not available in the program you can write your own using the Sibelius Sound Set Editor (below), or email us and tell us which MIDI device you have. We cannot guarantee to create new files on request, but if you can also email details of the device such as the list off program numbers and names and the bank numbers it would help a lot.

The Sibelius Sound Set Editor is a free application for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.4 or later that allows you to create sound sets for Sibelius 5.
