548: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002) error.

If you get the following error when starting Sibelius 5 (or Sibelius First) for the first time after having updated Sibelius 5:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.

It means that your version of C++ 2005 Redistributable is either corrupted or is the wrong version so please do the following:

On Windows XP:

• Go to Start > Control Panel and double click the icon Add/Remove Programs and uninstall this program:
  Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
• If you have downloaded the Sibelius 5 updater double click it again to reinstall it.
• If you have a Sibelius 5 DVD, simply put the DVD in the computer and run the Sibelius 5 installation again.
• The first thing to happen is that you will be prompted to install the C++ runtime libraries - click install and allow the process to continue.
• The correct version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable will be installed
• Follow the instructions through to repair Sibelius 5.
• When the process has completed, check that Sibelius 5 starts correctly.

On Windows Vista:

• Go to Start > Control Panel and double click the icon Programs and Features and uninstall this program:
  Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
• If you have downloaded the Sibelius 5 updater double click it to reinstall.
• If you have a Sibelius 5 DVD, simply put the DVD in the computer and run the Sibelius 5 installation again.
• The first thing to happen is that you will be prompted to install the C++ runtime libraries - click install and allow the process to continue.
• The correct version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable will be installed
• Follow the instructions through to repair Sibelius 5.
• When the process has completed, check that Sibelius 5 starts correctly.

NB When installing Sibelius 5 Student, some versions of Vista do not show the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable in the list of programs. In this case, please try the following procedure:

• Insert the Sibelius 5 Student CD-ROM and wait for the menu to appear.
• Choose to browse the CD-ROM
• Open the folder called Sibelius 5 Student by double clicking it
• Open the folder called vcredist_x86 by double clicking it
• Doubleclick the program called vcredist_x86.exe

The program will run uninstalling any previous version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable library and install the correct version. Sibelius Student will then run but we advise you to right click the icon and choose to Run as Administrator for the first time of running in order to register successfully.
