454: Problems with Yamaha USB keyboards / interfaces and Flexitime in Sibelius
We have had some reports of people having problems using Yamaha keyboards with built-in USB interfaces and Yamaha USB interfaces in Sibelius.
When using Flexitime you may find that the notes don't get entered on the score until the 3rd bar or later. The problem is caused by an incompatibility between the Yamaha USB driver and Sibelius.
You may also find that Sibelius crashes when trying to use your Yamaha keyboard or USB interface.
As of May 7th 2005, Yamaha have released a newer driver for Windows XP and Mac OS X which fixes this problem. It can be downloaded from here: www.yamahasynth.com/download/midi_driver.html
Since the update does not include Windows 98, and just for completeness, below is the work-around we used before the new driver was available - please try this or contact us if the above download does not solve the problem.
If your keyboard or midi device has midi ports we suggest connecting via the midi ports instead of the USB port, maybe by using a game port connection on a soundcard or a non-Yamaha interface.
If you do have to use the USB connection and Yamaha driver we suggest one of the following:
Either
- When using Flexitime, if the notes do not appear when you start recording press Esc (to stop recording), Ctrl+Z (to undo and go back to the start) and then Ctrl+Shift+F to restart Flexitime. If you restart within about 5 seconds it will start entering notes from the first bar.
Or
- Use MIDI-OX to filter MIDI messages coming into the computer before they reach Sibelius. To do this please follow the instructions found here in the section 'Using MIDI-OX as a MIDI message filter'. Please note that you don't actually have to set up any filters, just running the MIDI messages through MIDI-OX first is enough to solve the problem.
