422: The instrument name appears on the wrong page and cannot be moved or selected

It is possible to drag an instrument name on to a different page but it is not possible to drag it back in the same way. This can happen if you inadvertently dragged the instrument name while navigating around the score.

To get the name back to its original position, you first need to get it back on to the original page. The best way of doing this is to go to Layout > Document Setup and change the size of the paper to A3 (if you are using A4 normally) and also change the orientation to Landscape instead of portrait.

If this doesn't work then you can also drag the left-hand end of the staff to the right. This makes more space at the start of the system but also moves the instrument names so you should find that your errant instrument name then appears on the correct page. Once the name is on the correct page you can select it and go to Layout > Reset Position to restore its original position.

You can then reset the staff back to the correct left-hand position by going to the Bars section of the Properties window and changing the Gap before bar to zero.
