336: Grace notes - adding at the end of a trill or just before a subsequent barline

Problem:

Because grace notes attach to the following note and not to barlines, it's difficult to make grace notes appear at the end of a bar, as occasionally seen e.g. after a trill.

Solution:

• Create a second voice, putting in rests which end with a very small value at the very end of the bar (as small a value as possible, e.g. a 128th rest). You can also use a note for the last value - use silent noteheads for voice 2 so it doesn't play back.
• Select the rest previous to that, and then hit space; now enter your grace notes. Since grace notes in Sibelius always precede the following note or rest, this will force the grace notes to appear in the correct bar, close to the barline when you respace.
• Now hide all of the voice 2 rests, flip the stem directions of the grace notes as necessary, and you can respace without fear of their position changing drastically.

Unless the "real" notes in voice one are also extremely small note values (e.g. less than 32nd notes) this method works pretty well because longer note values leave plenty of space for 3 or 4 grace notes at the end of a bar. This also works great if you want to use the parenthesized stemless grace note as a trill-to indicator following a note. You can determine the amount of space you want between the start of the trill and the trill-to note by the rest value you insert on the downbeat.
