328: Tuplets: creating quadtuplet quarter notes (crotchets) in 3/4

A quadtuplet is a tuplet in which four notes fit into the space normally occupied by a different number of notes, typically six. Sometimes, however, a quadtuplet is required where four notes should fit into the space of three, and this requires a different procedure for creating it.

To create four quadtuplet quarter notes (crotchets) in the time of three (e.g. in a 3/4 bar):

  • Create the first note of the quadtuplet at the start of the bar
  • Choose Create > Tuplet
  • Type 4:3 into the edit control at the top of the dialog
  • Set the other parameters as you want them (in this simple case you should normally use Number rather than Ratio)
  • Click OK
  • Add the remaining three notes to the quadtuplet

For further information about tuplets, see Triplets and other tuplets in your User Guide.
