27: Hewlett Packard printers - problems printing (Windows)
Due to problems in various versions of the drivers for popular Hewlett Packard printers, particularly the DeskJet inkjet series, users have reported various faults in output from Sibelius.
PROBLEM: no vertical (barlines) or horizontal
(staff lines) printed.
SOLUTION: switch off "Substitute Lines" in the Print
dialog box (File menu).
PROBLEM: no noteheads, clefs, time signatures
etc. printed, or spurious text characters printed in their place.
SOLUTION: click "Properties" next to the name of the
printer at the top of the Print dialog box, and look for an option called
"Print TrueType fonts as graphics" or similar (the exact wording
may vary according to the version of the drivers you are using). Switch
this on. If this option doesn't exist in your driver, go to Hewlett
Packard's website and
download some new drivers for your printer.
PROBLEM: I've tried everything above and it still doesn't work. What now?
SOLUTION: install the drivers for a "Hewlett Packard DeskJet
550 series" printer direct from your Windows 95 or 98 CD-ROM. This
is a Microsoft driver rather than a Hewlett Packard driver and seems
to perform better with graphics-intensive software such as Sibelius.
PROBLEM: Long scores do not print correctly
using the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5MP printer.
SOLUTION: download the latest drivers from Hewlett Packard's
website.
PROBLEM: selecting my printer in the Print
dialog box causes Sibelius to crash
SOLUTION: there are problems with certain printer drivers in
version 1.21 of Sibelius, including the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5000
and LaserJet 4V. If you experience this problem, make sure you've installed all the updates for your version of Sibelius or upgrade to Sibelius 5.
