130: Restoring defaults - returning Sibelius to its 'out-of-the-box' state

If you make changes to word menus, keyboard shortcuts or other user preferences and need to return Sibelius 4 to its default behaviour, you should do the following:

  • To change keyboard shortcuts go to File > Preferences > Menus and Shortcuts and either edit the set you created or delete any sets you have created.
  • To change word menus go to File > Preferences > Word Menus and either edit or delete a menu from the list.

To return Sibelius 3 to it's default behaviour you should do the following:

  • To change keyboard shortcuts go to File > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts and either edit the set you created or delete any sets you have created.
  • To change word menus go to File > Preferences > Word Menus and either edit or delete a menu from the list.

Alternatively, to remove all of the above preferences on Sibelius 4 to reset back to default options, please do the following:

  • On Mac OSX with Sibelius 4 put the Sibelius 4 Preferences folder in the trash. You will find this folder in the Users > [USERNAME] > Library > Preferences folder.
  • On Mac OS9 with Sibelius 3.x, find the Sibelius 3 Preferences folder (inside the Preferences folder in the System Folder) and put it in the Trashcan. Next time you run Sibelius, it will recreate these files with the default settings.
  • On Windows, to remove most preferences for Sibelius 4 use regedit to remove these keys:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 4\Preferences
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 4\Preferences
To reset keyboard shortcuts back to default settings, remove this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 4\Keyboard Shortcuts
To reset word menus back to default settings, remove this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 4\Music Terms
(To reset earlier versions of Sibelius change 'Sibelius 4' in the above keys to the version no of Sibelius that you have e.g. 'Sibelius 2' for v2.x)

Note that we do not recommend manually altering Mac Preferences or the Windows Registry, and we do not accept any responsibility for damage caused to your system or your Sibelius installation in so doing. You are strongly recommended to back up the files before you make any changes to it. On the Mac just make a copy of the Preferences folder. To backup the Windows Registry, go to Start > Run and type scanregw /backup. To restore a backed-up Registry, from a DOS prompt type scanreg /restore.
