Font Plantin MT Std not found?

I recently upgraded from Win7 to Win10 as a new install onto a new disk (not an upgrade), so I reinstalled Sibelius Ultimate 2018.7. Now when I open .sib scores I get a message saying it cannot find Plantin MT Std.

Was this font supposed to be installed with Sibelius?

There is some issue about it not being provided anymore because of licensing issues, and I believe there is some way to get the font for free, but I don't have any of the details.

Bob is right: the Plantin MT Std font is no longer installed with Sibelius. However, there is nothing stopping you transferring that font from your old PC to the new one.

Thanks for the info! Did Avid tell us anywhere about that. Did this happen with the invention of Sibelius Ultimate? I'm not too happy about being informed this way. Immediately backed up my Sib7 Fonts as I don't want to be surprised one day when I perhaps should be going to maintain an older huge Sib7 project in Sib Ultimate. Or is this a hint to better export to xml and make me comfortable with Musescore?

jhgarrison is invited to contact me via email if he doesn't hear from Avid and don't want to try installing an older version only for getting the font back (if he actually has older installation files backed up, because Avid doesn't give us easy access to older versions either.)

There's no need for panic. No-one is taking away fonts that you have already installed. It is only brand new installations of Sibelius, on PCs that had no previous installation of Sibelius, that will not include the "Plantin MT Std" font out-of-the-box.

If you already have "Plantin MT Std" installed, then you will be able to continue using it, even if you update Sibelius to a newer version that would not have installed that font itself.

By checking through my archive of Sibelius installers, I ascertained that this change happened for version 2018.6, in all tiers (there is only one installer for all tiers). Also, if you check the shipping House Styles and Manuscript Papers, they now default to "Times New Roman", instead of Plantin.

If you send one of your scores to another Sibelius user who does not have the font installed, I assume that Sibelius will substitute another font (Time New Roman?) for Plantin, though I have no machine to try this on.

I don't know whether this will cause reformatting on the transferred score.

I was told that there would be a way to download the font (for free?) but I have heard no details about that.

My old Win7 C: drive is currently mounted on Win10 as X:, so I navigated to X:\Windows\Fonts, found the 4 PlantinMT .otf files, and installed them on my new system.

I mentioned this in the review of 2018.6, although I admit the news could have been easily missed. I was told it would be available as a separate installer but I don't see any more info about that.
