Sib. 7.1: Speeding up or slowing down playback (transporter)
Posted by WoodyS - 21 Apr 06:29PM
Is there a way to speed up or slow down the playback of a score using the transporter, with more precision than with just the slider?

I thought perhaps a right or left arrow key or a cntrl-left or right arrow key might do it, but apparently not.

Is there something I'm missing?

No - the arrows won't work. If you don't like the slider in the transporter you could use the Live Tempo feature and tap in the desired tempo changes.

No. The Transport Bar slider is just for rough-and-ready adjustments - if you want to skim thgrough a score at high speed perhaps. For precise adjustments leave it centered and insert mm mark text objects.

Well, admitedly this is a small thing, but one that would be appreciated in a future version of Sibelius. The slider does not slide with precision and sometimes you want something to play back "just a little slower" or "just a little faster".

Sibelius does so many wonderful and unexpected things, adding a short-cut key to allow for this functionality should probably be pretty easy.

Thank you

I would actually like a feature where you could manually adjust the tempo, maybe by penciling them into the 'live tempo' bar, like you can in sequencing programs or pro tools. This would give a lot more control over tempo playback, and would help playback come alive.

I've never found this necessary - rough and ready is the phrase I would have used and it's fine for me.

Is 'just a little faster' a 'precise' instruction anyway? :)

FWIW, I've long thought it would be nice if the "notch" in the slider could be optional.

Or perhaps when you hold down the shift or cmd-key it changes in smaller steps like in many other applications.

Ditto. I often use Sibelius in a classroom setting with a projector, even using playback to teach songs. Fiddling with the slider to take the tempo down 5-10 clicks breaks up the flow when teaching a lesson. I realize Sibelius is not designed to be a media player, but it would be nice to implement this functionality with a push of a button like VLC does.

The redesign of both the sliders in the Transport panel and the graphics in the Keypads are NOT my favourite features of Sibelius 8.

Hi everyone. I had the same concern and sorted it out. Here goes :

Click HOME. Move along horizontally till you see PLUG IN. Click. There will be a dropdown and at the end of that list click SET METRONOME MARK. A box comes up and asks you to set the tempo you want. Sing or hum your song while you click the crochet beats ( or other) . Keep clicking. The box will recognise when you have clicked 12 times and give you the average of the 12 times. YOu choose it or the tempo listed as the nearest to it and close the box. VOILA ! Your song will playback at the tempo you chose.
