Sib. 6.2: Will Yamaha P95 midi keyboard work with Sibelius?

Hi,

I want to buy a Midi keyboard to input music to Sibelius. Ideally I'd like this to be a relatively good performance piano too. I like the look of the Yamaha P95, but have read quite a few tales of Yamaha keyboards not working with Sibelius. Does anyone know if this one does work ok?

It appears to have a MIDI Out port, so there's no reason it shouldn't pump notes into Sibelius effeciently.

Which Yamaha keyboards have you heard about that don't?

For what it's worth, I've had trouble using Flexitime midi input with my Yamaha P80. There seems to be a high latency, making it impossible to get notes in accurately, even with settings in Sibelius that work perfectly with a plain midi keyboard.

I dare say I could tweak the settings in Sibelius, or the piano itself, to make it work, but not being able to use the P80 wasn't a big problem at the time so I didn't pursue it.

Yamaha instruments work perfectly well with Sibelius. I've used loads of them, from organs to Clavinovas and keyboards. Latency issues are to do with the computer, not Sibelius or the input instrument.

Yes, there are a lot of myths and misconceptions out there. Latency, as mentioned above, is a soundcard or setting issue with the computer. Midi is midi, it's 25+ years old and is relatively simple. I use my Yamaha mm6 with Sibelius every day.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm not sure which keyboards they were, or even when the posts were created, I'd just read that there could be compatibility issues. But it looks as if that probably has more to do with the computer side of things.

We have a new laptop and plan to test out the P95 with Sibelius in a nearby shop. I'll post again once we've done that!

hey alexandra. My p95 works with sibelius except for one flaw: i only have the sustain pedal and when i use it an "e" above middle c is sounded and if the bar is selected the "e" gets written. The same thing happens when i change instruments except a lower note is sounded (i think a g)

I frequently use Sibelius (both 6.2 and 7.1.3) with a Yamaha P95, and have NEVER encountered the problem that Robert suffers from. I can only assume that something's been ticked on his machine that shouldn't have been, or a cable's been plugged into the wrong socket.

I contacted yamaha and they had heard of this problem before. I'm using a Hosa technology midi interface USM 422
version 2. They replied that they have had problems with this interface. Im going to buy a new one and will report back
