636: Running Sibelius 5 and Sibelius 6 or Scorch 6 on the same Mac computer
Automatic removal of fonts from earlier versions
Sibelius 6.2 and Scorch 6.2 for Mac are now supplied with OpenType versions of the Opus, Inkpen2, Reprise and Helsinki font families. These fonts provide improved compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
When you install Sibelius 6.2 or Scorch 6.2, any previous versions of the fonts supplied with Sibelius 4 or later are automatically removed. If you encounter any problems with symbols not appearing in Sibelius, run Font Book (in your Applications folder) and check that there are no duplicate copies of any of the Opus, Inkpen2, Reprise or Helsinki fonts remaining on your system.
Running an earlier version of Sibelius after installing Sibelius 6.2 or Scorch 6.2
Earlier versions of Sibelius cannot use the OpenType fonts installed by Sibelius 6.2 or Scorch 6.2. If you need to run Sibelius 5 or Sibelius 4 on the same computer as Sibelius 6.2 or Scorch 6.2, you should delete all the fonts with the names Opus, Inkpen2, Helsinki and Reprise from these locations:
- /Library/Fonts
- /Users/YourUserName/Library/Fonts
Once you have done that, download Sibelius6FontSuitcases.zip (1.2MB, zip archive), which contains up-to-date versions of the music fonts in the old TrueType font suitcase format not officially deprecated in Mac OS X 10.6.
Extract the zip archive and place all of the extracted files in /Library/Fonts. Sibelius 6.2 and Scorch 6.2 are still able to work with these older versions of the fonts.
EPS files created in earlier versions of Sibelius
EPS files created using the older TrueType fonts will open in applications such as Preview or Adobe Illustrator with missing noteheads, symbols, clefs, etc. on machines on which the new OpenType fonts are installed.
The fonts are in fact embedded correctly, and will print correctly on computers that have either the old TrueType versions of the fonts installed, or indeed none of the Sibelius fonts installed at all.
However, due to the fact that the TrueType and OpenType fonts are named identically but have different internal character encodings, many viewing applications – including Preview and Adobe Illustrator – will not display these EPS files correctly if the OpenType fonts are installed.
If you have a large number of EPS files created using the old TrueType versions of the fonts and you need to edit them or output them on a computer on which you have the Sibelius music fonts installed, you are recommended to continue to use the TrueType fonts.
